Seminar on Promoting the Digital Development of Enterprises through 5G Held in Haikou

 Seminar     |       2023/3/3

On March 2, FuTURE FORUM held a Seminar on Promoting the Digital Development of Enterprises through 5G and a Special Seminar on Excellent Application Cases at the World 5G Convention in Haikou. The event brought together leaders from the Hainan Provincial Health Commission and the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Heilongjiang Province, invited experts from the World 5G Convention Evaluation Expert Pool, operators, equipment manufacturers, research institutions, universities, and representatives from various industries who specialize in applying 5G technology to their specific fields. They discussed and exchanged insights on the integration of 5G technology and vertical industries since the commercialization of 5G, including experiences, issues, industrial applications, and existing commercial models. The seminar also explored how to promote the digital transformation of enterprises, overcome the development bottlenecks of traditional industries through 5G, and meet the digital needs of enterprises. The participants reached a consensus on the way forward.

The World 5G Convention is an international event in the global 5G field jointly hosted by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, and local governments with the approval of the State Council. It has been successfully held four times to date. As one of the organizers of the conference, FuTURE FORUM holds the annual "Top 10 5G Application Cases" and "5G Fusion Application Design Competition" selection activities during the conference. The outstanding cases selected by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and NDRC have received close attention from the industry, society, as well as mainstream and industry media.

According to Fu Jun, Deputy Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, since the commercialization of 5G three years ago, its applications in various industries have shifted from being mere "showcases" to practical use, effectively solving many digitalization challenges faced by industries and enterprises. 5G has become a new driving force in the development of the digital economy.

Haikou is home to the "5G Smart Healthcare Contributes to the Healthy Hainan Island" project, which won first prize in the World 5G Convention-5G Fusion Application Design Competition, and the "5G Empowers the Demonstration Zone for Internet of Vehicles at Hainan Free Trade Port" project, which won second prize. These projects have had a positive impact on the development of 5G in various industries, particularly in smart healthcare and smart transportation.

On the eve of the seminar, a group of experts from the Excellent Application Case Review Committee of the World 5G Convention, organized by FuTURE FORUM, visited Hainan General Hospital and Hainan Unicom to investigate the "5G Smart Healthcare Contributes to the Healthy Hainan Island" project. The project was jointly launched by the Hainan Provincial Health Commission, Hainan Unicom, Huawei, Garea Health Technology, and other units. It aims to address the problems of scarce medical resources and severe imbalances of medical resources in grassroots medical and health institutions in Hainan Province. The project's objective is to enhance the accessibility of medical services by leveraging 5G private network PLUS and integrating technologies such as 5G, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. The project aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment capabilities of local health institutions throughout Hainan Province by enabling diagnostic capabilities for pathology, CT, and MR at city and county hospitals, ultrasound at township health centers, and electrocardiogram and fetal heart monitoring capabilities at village clinics. It aligns with the "new infrastructure" initiative and aims to improve basic health services in Hainan Province. The aim is to eliminate the need for residents to travel to the city for minor illnesses or to leave Hainan Island for major medical treatment, while also promoting the development of high-quality healthcare services at the grassroots level that can serve as a national benchmark.

Li Wenxiu, Deputy Director of the Hainan Provincial Health Commission, attended the seminar and said that the commission launched the "Medical and Health Capacity Enhancement Project Based on 5G Internet of Things at the Grassroots Level" in October 2020. The project has utilized smart applications to make healthcare services more accessible to the public with remarkable achievements. In 2022, the Hainan Provincial Health Commission achieved a major milestone by becoming the first in the country to converge big data in the three medical fields of medical insurance, medical treatment, and pharmaceuticals. It also established a supply platform for the three medical fields and achieved interconnection among all medical institutions. This achievement has further promoted the deep integration of 5G technology and business needs, and the construction of a higher-level health network that can better serve the people. Li Wenxiu emphasized that the construction of 5G networks has been an ongoing process, with technology advancing and demand increasing. He further emphasized the need to leverage 5G capabilities to bridge the gap between digital supply and demand, and truly realize the value of 5G technology.

In 2022, the World 5G Convention held in Heilongjiang Province gathered 432 exceptional 5G application cases from 30 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. These cases were submitted by the Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of various provinces and three major telecommunications operators. A total of 770 teams competed in the 5G Fusion Application Design Competition. These outstanding cases not only serve as benchmarks for industries in China but also offer valuable insights and experience for the rest of the world.

During the seminar, Guan Yingmin, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Heilongjiang Province, emphasized that 5G, as a representative of new infrastructure, is becoming an increasingly important driving force in promoting the digitalization, networking, and intelligence of the real economy, and it is the perfect time to promote the innovation-based application and ecology construction of 5G. She also noted that Heilongjiang Province has the necessary resources, foundation, platform, and application scenarios to support the development of the digital economy. To this end, the province intends to increase policy support, accelerate the construction of 5G infrastructure, and create typical application scenarios in order to facilitate the deep integration of the digital economy with the real economy.

The key to driving digital transformation in enterprises and industries lies in exploring an appropriate way to apply advanced technologies. In his keynote speech, Zhang Xinsheng, Vice President of FuTURE FORUM, said that technology integration has become the main trend in driving the digitalization of enterprises. The integration of 5G, edge cloud, AI/ML, IoT, and IT/OT in enterprises will strengthen digital transformation, improve production efficiency, and reduce costs. The integration and aggregation of technologies can provide integrated services tailored to digital needs and integrate strong connectivity, computing power, intelligent algorithms, and robust security monitoring. This can not only transform enterprises and industries but also change society as a whole. Enterprises undergoing digital transformation should prioritize the integration of IT and OT, which is a major trend in technological development.

During the seminar, the experts in charge of judging the "Top 10 5G Application Cases" and "5G Fusion Application Design Competition" at the World 5G Convention, along with outstanding representatives from enterprises, engaged in in-depth discussions on the industry applications of 5G. They put forward many useful suggestions on how 5G can better meet the needs of industry and the digitalization of enterprises in the next steps.

Fu Jun, Deputy Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, also commented on the purpose and significance of the seminar, stating that empowering various industries with 5G is an ongoing and long-term "digital topic". This requires sustained efforts and cannot be accomplished through short-term investments alone. He hoped to utilize the platform of the World 5G Convention to continuously host events such as the selection of outstanding 5G application cases and discussions like the Seminar on Promoting the Digital Development of Enterprises through 5G. These activities would foster the sharing of experiences, drive industrial innovation, and build a bridge between the digital capabilities of the ICT industry chain and the digital needs of various industries. This would ultimately promote the implementation and commercialization of more excellent 5G application cases.
